Terms & Conditions
Our commitment to you, and yours to us
These Terms & Conditions govern the use of justkarate.co.uk and the services provided by Pure Indigo Limited (trading as Just Karate). By enrolling a student or purchasing from our shop, you agree to these terms.
1. Safety, Conduct & Safeguarding
By enrolling a student, you agree to abide by the official policies of Just Karate. These are mandatory conditions of training to ensure the safety of all participants:
- Supervision & Safeguarding: You agree to the parental supervision, "drop and go" age limits, and late collection procedures detailed in our Safeguarding Policy.
- Dojo Code: Students and guardians must follow the conduct and etiquette guidelines set out in our Dojo Code. To maintain a safe environment for all, continued participation is dependent on adhering to our conduct and safety guidelines. Failure to adhere to these standards may result in removal from the class without a refund.
- Data & Privacy: All medical and personal information provided is managed securely in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
- Photography & Media: We occasionally take photographs or videos during classes for training or promotional use. Media is only captured and used in accordance with the granular permissions you provide within the student portal. For full details on how we manage, store, and protect these images, please see our Photography & Media Policy.
2. Training, Risk & Liability
- Assumption of Risk: Karate is a physical contact sport. While we maintain high safety standards and qualified instruction, by enrolling, you acknowledge that training involves inherent risks. You voluntarily assume these risks and agree that Just Karate (Pure Indigo Limited) and its instructors shall not be liable for any injuries sustained during the normal course of practice.
- Medical Fitness & Consent: You certify that the student is physically fit to participate in a contact sport. You must disclose any medical conditions, allergies, or additional needs via the student portal that may affect the student’s ability to train safely or require emergency intervention. All health data is handled as 'Special Category Data' under our Privacy Policy and is accessible only to authorised instructors. In the event of an emergency, you authorise Just Karate staff to seek professional medical assistance if a guardian is not immediately available.
- Personal Property: Pure Indigo Limited does not accept liability for the loss, theft, or damage of personal belongings brought to the training venues. We recommend leaving valuables at home.
- Third-Party Venues: Training takes place at external facilities. Members must abide by the specific health and safety rules of the venue provider in addition to our own dojo protocols. By attending Just Karate sessions, you agree to indemnify Just Karate and its instructors against any loss or damage to venue property caused by your actions (fair wear and tear excepted). Just Karate and the host venue accept no responsibility for loss or damage to personal property brought onto the premises.
3. Membership & Payments
- Digital Communications: By enrolling, you agree to receive essential service updates (such as class cancellations or venue changes) via the email address and mobile number provided in the student portal.
- Taster Sessions: Taster sessions are a one-time introductory offer. Refunds are not available for cancellations made within 14 days of the scheduled session date. If you purchase a taster session less than 14 days before it takes place, you agree that the right to a refund is waived once the session is attended or the 14-day window prior to the session begins.
- Annual Licence: An annual licence fee is payable upon joining and must be renewed every 12 months. It is the responsibility of the member to ensure their licence remains current. This is mandatory for all practising members to cover essential student liability insurance. The fee is strictly non-refundable once processed, and we do not offer pro-rata refunds should a student choose to leave mid-year.
- Fixed-Week Training Blocks: Training is provided in blocks of fixed consecutive weeks. Payment for the full block must be made
in advance to secure a student’s place.
- Continuous Service: We do not pause training blocks for seasonal breaks or bank holidays. This ensures consistent progress and predictable renewal dates for all members.
- Alternative Training Delivery: We reserve the right to replace scheduled in-person training with alternative formats at any time. This includes, but is not limited to, live virtual sessions, specialised workshops, seminars, or curated video content. These formats constitute a full delivery of service toward your training block.
- Seasonal Delivery (Christmas & New Year): During the two-week Christmas and New Year period, in-person classes are replaced by the alternative delivery methods mentioned above. No extensions or refunds are provided for these scheduled shifts in delivery format.
- Full Substitution: These alternative formats are provided in lieu of in-person sessions and constitute a full delivery of service toward your training block. No extensions or refunds are provided for these scheduled shifts in delivery format.
- Non-Automatic Renewal: We do not currently use automatic recurring billing. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to purchase the next fixed-week block before the current one expires to maintain their place.
- No-Refund Policy: We do not offer refunds or pro-rata credits for fixed-week blocks once payment has been made. This applies regardless of student attendance, illness, holidays, or a decision to stop training mid-block.
- Safety-Mandated Recovery: By enrolling, you acknowledge that Just Karate enforces a mandatory 14-day 'Graduated Return to Training' protocol following any head impact or suspected concussion. You agree that sessions missed during this safety-mandated recovery period are non-refundable and cannot be pro-rated, as these protocols are a requirement of regulatory and safety requirements. Full details can be found on our Concussion Protocol page.
- Cancellations by Us: While we strive to never miss a session, if an in-person class is cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control
(including, but not limited to, instructor illness or venue unavailability), we will provide a solution in the following order of priority:
- Alternative Delivery: We will provide an alternative training format as detailed in our 'Alternative Training Delivery' clause.
- Block Extension: In the rare event that no alternative delivery is viable, the end date for your current fixed-week block will be extended by the number of cancelled lessons.
- Force Majeure: Just Karate shall not be liable for any failure to perform its obligations where such failure results from any cause beyond our reasonable control. This includes, but is not limited to: acts of God, fire, flood, war, pandemic, government-mandated lockdowns, or national emergencies. In such events, we reserve the right to move all training to a virtual platform to ensure the continued delivery of your training block. We do not offer refunds for sessions affected by Force Majeure or individual cancellations, provided an alternative method of training delivery or a block extension is offered.
4. The Online Shop (Returns & Refunds)
- Collection: Shop items may be collected at the student's regular training venue or from the Pure Indigo office in Cottenham by prior appointment.
- Right to Cancel: You have 14 days from receipt of goods to return items for a full refund.
- Condition: Uniforms (Karate-Gi) must be returned in "as new" condition, in original packaging, and in a resalable state. We cannot accept returns for items that have been washed, marked (e.g. by perspiration or floor dirt), or where belts have been tied in a way that creases the fabric beyond resalable condition.
5. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to update these terms periodically.
