Varesh-e Pahlavani

Traditional Iranian Martial arts.

The history of Iranian martial arts dates back to the Parthian Empire of Iran (132 BC - 226 AD) and was originally an academy of physical training for warriors against foreign invasion. Over the years practitioners of Varzesh-e Pahlavani (Pahlavans) were involved in repelling Greek, arab and Mongol invaders. The art evolved over this time, incorporating the spiritual aspects and traditions of the changing local culture.
