Subak

Subak (or Soo Bahk do) is a martial art that became popular in Korea during the Koryo Dynasty (935-1392 AD). It was systematised by Wang Kyon and taught to the military. There was a subak tournement each year which was compulsory for all military personel those successful in the competition were awarded high ranking positions. During the Yi Dynasty (1392-1910) a book was written on Subak which elevated it from a sporting activity to a martial art.
