Shito Ryu

Style of karate founded by Kenwa Mabuni. It can be seen as a combination of Shotokan and Goju-Ryu styles. As such it is fast and powerful but is also at times soft and artistic. Shito-Ryu also includes ko-budo (weapon arts) and sometimes Iaido.

The word "shito" comes from the first kanji characters in the names of each of Kenwa Mabuni's teachers names, Itosu and Higashionna respectively.
