Randori

Japanese word used in karate, Aikido

and judo to mean light continuous sparring. Literally, Ran means chaos or random and dori means hold. Thus, we have chaotic holds, random holds, or the commonly English transliteration of free play. This contrasts with kata where moves must follow a prearranged pattern.
