Oyama, Masutatsu (1923-1994)

Creator of the karate style, Kyokushinkai. Oyama was renouned for his great strength and his devastating strikes, such that he became known as "the Godhand". He took on many challengers, many of whom he defeated with a single punch. But most unusually of all, he demonstrated his karate by fighting bulls, sometimes killing them instantly, sometimes chopping off horns with his knife-hand strike.

Oyama was born in Korea but studied shotokan karate under Gichin Funakoshi. He later studied Goju Ryu karate under Gogen Yamaguchi.
