Founder of the Wado Ryu school of karate. Ohtsuka sensei was an
accomplished master of Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu before he became interested in karate in 1922. By 1928,
he was assistant instructor to Gichin Funakoshi. In 1972 the Imperial Japanese family awarded him the
title "Shodai Karate-do meijin Judan" meaning "first generation karate master of the 10th level". He was the first Japanese
(rather than Okinawan) to make a style of karate.
