Nishiyama began his karate training in 1943, aged 15. He trained
under Gichin Funakoshi in Tokyo, Japan. He was one of the founders
of the Japan Karate Association and was appointed chief of the
instruction committee. In 1961 he moved the US where he was instrumental in the creation of
the AAKF. Shortly afterwards he formed his dojo in Los Angeles.
He is currently President of the JKA International
of the United States and President of the AAKF.
