Head of Okinawan Shorin-Ryu. Began karate aged 16 under the instruction of Sensei Ishu. He fought in the Japanese cavalry during the war and in 1946 began his instruction under Choshin Chibana. He became Master Chibana's Shihan Dai (assistant) in 1954 and was appointed as a director of the Okinawa Karate Federation when it was formed in 1956. After Master Chibana's death, Nakazato inherited leadership of the style and a 10th degree black belt.
