Higaonna, Morio (1938- )

9th dan in Goju-Ryu Karate and Chief Instructor of the IOGKF. The Naha born Morio Higaonna began his training aged 14 and 2 years later became the student of Anichi Miyagi. In 1960 he moved to Tokyo to study commerce at Takushoku University and there he taught karate at the Yoyogi dojo until 1981. He founded the IOGKF in 1979. Master Higaonna moved to the United States in 1987 and established the Institute of Traditional Karate in San Marcos, California.
