There are a wide variety of hand techniques in the martial arts.
Karate systems contain the following hand techniques (te waza):
- Oi-tsuki (stepping punch)
- Gyaku-tsuki (reverse punch)
- Kizami-tsuki (Front hand punch)
- Kagi-tsuki (Hook punch)
- Choku-tsuki (Straight punch)
- Empi-uchi (elbow strike) not strictly speaking a hand technique because the striking part is the elbow.
- Uraken-uchi (backfist strike)
- Haito-uchi (Ridgehand strike)
- Tettsui-uchi (Hammerfist strike)
- Shuto-uchi (knifehand strike)
- Nukite-uchi (spearhand strike)
