Dragon is a style of kung fu. It emphasis the use of evasion as a defence, using rotation of the upper and lower torso, and is essentially an internal style. However, students of this style will initially develop moves in an external manner, striking and blocking hard and stomping into each position. This eventually develops into smooth, fluid movements.
Dragon style has its origins in the Shaolin temple in the Honan province. Many of the movements associated with dragon are said to have been part of bodhidarma's exercises in the 6th century A.D. It's emergence as a distinct style is thought to have been around 1565 A.D. One legend states that the style was created by the Shaolin nun Wu Mui. Another legend credits the a monk called Mui Fa San Yang. Since its origin in the Shaolin temple, Dragon evolved into two distinct styles, Southern Dragon and Northern Dragon.
