Aikido

Japanese fighting art focusing on locking and throwing techniques. It was originally developed by O Sensei Morihei Ueshiba who based it on Daito-ryu Aiki-jutsu and kenjutsu. Literally translated "way of the cosmic energy" this martial art uses the momentum of the attacker to generate the power for the techniques, often described as "using the weight of the attacker against him". Different styles include Aikikai and Yoshinkan, which is taught to the Tokyo riot police.
